Job summary

GAP Group is seeking a Hire Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of the Hire Desk within our busy Plant & Tool division in the UK. You will manage a team of Hire & Sales Coordinators and Drivers, balancing operational control with a commercial focus to deliver safe, efficient, and customer-centric service.

The role emphasizes driving revenue, staffing coverage, and process accuracy while maintaining high Health & Safety and compliance standards.

• Strong people management skills with the ability to coach and develop others.
• Commercial focus with experience driving revenue and add on sales.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under pressure.
• Strong communication skills with customers, staff, and stakeholders at all levels.
• A solid understanding of Health & Safety within an operational environment.

Responsibilities

• Leading and managing the day to day operation of the Hire Desk and Transport function
• Allocating, prioritising, and overseeing workloads for Hire & Sales Co ordinators and Drivers
• Recruiting, motivating, coaching, and developing team members to achieve high performance
• Ensuring adequate staffing cover, including holidays, absence, and weekend attendance
• Driving add on sales performance through proactive promotion of consumables and accessories
• Overseeing stock control of consumables and resale items to meet demand
• Ensuring accurate processing of on hires, off hires, exchanges, and transport activity
• Monitoring delivery and collection performance to meet customer timescales
• Reviewing reports, customer queries, and administrative issues, taking corrective action where required
• Maintaining high standards of Health & Safety, compliance, and operational control
• Taking a hands on role during periods of holiday or absence where required

We're looking for a proactive and driven Hire Manager to lead the day to day operation of the Hire Desk within our busy Plant & Tool division.
