Job summary

Ringway London in Guildford is recruiting a Highways Operative to carry out general maintenance and routine/cyclical works under a Chargehand. You will respond to emergencies and on-call requirements, and assist with winter maintenance as a second man or driver’s mate.

Includes apprentices who have completed training. The role requires a valid driving licence, CSCS card (where client demands), and a readiness to develop skills across a range of highways tasks.

Qualifications

• Experience in general highways works and maintenance.
• Ability to respond to emergencies and call-outs.
• Relevant driving and plant operation competencies.
• Willingness to train and supervise colleagues.
• CSCS card and driving licence preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance works and operations under supervision.
• Respond to emergencies and call-outs, including out-of-hours as needed.
• Assist with winter maintenance activities and as a second man/driver's mate.
• Supervise operatives and provide on-site training where required.
• Complete record sheets and take responsibility for plant and equipment.

Summary

To carry out general maintenance works and operations, working with a Chargehand, undertaking a wide range of routine and cyclical works. To respond to emergencies and call outs during or out of hours on rotas as required and assist with winter maintenance activities as a second man or driver’s mate. Includes apprentices who have fully completed training

Specialist Skills

• To have and be able to apply a wide range of generalist skills
• To understand risk assessments and to assess according to safe systems of work
• To be able to understand and carry out work as set out in a specification
• Generally hold 12 months+ experience
• Potential & interest in obtaining LGV licence
• Undertaken training on: General health & safety awareness / Risk assessment awareness / Traffic Management / Use of PDA as required
• Ability to use small plant and equipment
• Ability to operate mini excavator
