Job summary

Cumberland Council is seeking a Highways Network Officer in Workington to help plan, design and deliver highway improvement and maintenance projects. The role involves surveys, specification preparation, supervision of works and winter operations to keep the network safe and reliable.

You will work with customers, contractors and elected members, applying strong technical knowledge and proactive problem solving to meet deadlines and budgets.

Qualifications

• Degree or NVQ Level 5 qualification (or equivalent).
• Strong technical knowledge of highways maintenance and design.
• Experience managing projects with customers, contractors and elected members.
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Undertake surveys and prepare specifications for highways projects.
• Supervise works on highways, footways and cycleways.
• Support winter maintenance operations and asset management.
• Provide technical advice to colleagues, contractors and stakeholders.
• Contribute to project planning and ensure works are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
