Job summary

Powys County Council is seeking an HGSS Operative (L1) based in Welshpool to undertake a range of skilled tasks on the highway network, including operation of large goods vehicles and equipment in the highways maintenance function.

The role covers out-of-hours service, winter maintenance, pre-salting, ploughing and patrolling county and trunk roads, often in adverse weather conditions, requiring flexibility and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Experience in Ground works.
• Under pinning knowledge of plant & equipment used in highway maintenance.
• Full HGV / LGV Licence category C.
• Ability to communicate at all levels.
• Good organisational skills.
• Ability to work alone under pressure in adverse weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a team carrying out highway maintenance.
• React to safety defects.
• Take part in the out of hours service including winter maintenance.
• Carry out vehicle checks and record in driver defect books.
