Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a Highways Operative/Driver to join the Morpeth depot. You will provide practical highway maintenance and construction support across the county, operating a range of plant and equipment and carrying out repairs to pavements, drainage and kerbs to keep our road network safe and reliable.

The role requires a Level 2 qualification in Highways (or working toward a trade qualification) and civil groundworks experience within a live highway environment, plus

Qualifications

• A Level 2 qualification or equivalent in Highways or working towards a trade qualification.
• Knowledge and experience of civil groundworks is essential and should include working within a live Highway environment.
• Ability to drive a variety of work related general purpose vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes.
• Desirable: experience in paving, kerbing, drainage, bricklaying and resurfacing.

Responsibilities

• Carry out highway repairs and maintenance including paving, kerbs, drainage and minor landscaping reinstatement.
• Operate highway plant and equipment such as compactors, rollers, mini-excavators and road saws following training.
• Drive and maintain security of non-HGV vehicles, completing daily/weekly checks and log sheets.
