Job summary

Amey is seeking a permanent Highways Maintenance Operative to join the Staffordshire Account at Gailey Depot (ST19 5PR). The role is onsite with 40 hours per week, across Stafford.

You will perform highway maintenance tasks, attend briefings, and support incident response, with opportunities for training and career progression within a leading civil engineering contractor.

Qualifications

• Experience in roads and/or street works.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Class 2 HGV (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Perform highway maintenance tasks, including patching, kerbing, ironwork replacement, and drainage maintenance.
• Attend work briefings to receive instructions and guidance on driving/operating vehicles and plant equipment.
• Participate in 24hr standby rotations during summer and winter for incident response, winter maintenance services, precautionary gritting, and snow clearance.
• Allocate and track time and resource utilization in accordance with the allocation system.
• Keep accurate records and complete all necessary paperwork, maintaining communication with Amey employees, sub-contractors, emergency services, clients and customers.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Maintenance Operative to join our dynamic Staffordshire Account at our Gailey Depot (ST19 5PR). This role will be carried out onsite and around Stafford. The standard hours of work are 40 per week.

What You’ll Do

• Perform various highway maintenance tasks, including carriageway and footway patching, kerbing, ironwork replacement, and drainage maintenance.
• Attend work briefings to receive instructions and guidance on driving/operating vehicles and plant equipment with both general and specialized skills.
• Participate in 24hr standby rotations during summer and winter for incident response, winter maintenance services, precautionary gritting, and snow clearance.
• Allocate and track time and resource utilization in accordance with the operated allocation system.
• Keep accurate records and complete all necessary paperwork, maintaining communication and liaising with Amey employees, sub-contractors, emergency services, police, clients, and customers.
