Job summary

Rochdale Council is recruiting a highways maintenance operative to join the in‑house highways service in the Borough. You will support the maintenance of over 600km of roads, footways and drainage, delivering schemes to enhance the highway network for residents and businesses.

You will work on revenue maintenance programmes, including resurfacing, drainage, kerbing and reactive pothole repairs, while maintaining high health and safety standards and complying with traffic management requirements.

Qualifications

• Current full driving licence with significant experience in highway construction/maintenance.
• Excellent awareness of health and safety legislation pertinent to highways.
• Knowledge of traffic management systems related to highways construction and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and support the revenue maintenance programme for roads and footways, drainage and kerbing works.
• Contribute to road resurfacing schemes and general highway maintenance including pothole repairs and gully cleansing.
• Work within the guidelines of a safe working environment and be prepared to work on other highway schemes as directed.

We have an exciting opportunity for a highways maintenance operative to join Rochdale Council's in-house highways maintenance service.

Rochdale Council are responsible for the maintenance of over 600km of highway network across the Borough.

You will be part of a team assisting with the provision of maintenance and of roads, footways, drainage systems and associated street scene works within the guidelines of a safe working environment.

This will be an opportunity to support the maintenance and enhancement of the highway network and provide long term benefits for residents, visitors and businesses in Rochdale.

This role will primarily focus on delivering the Authority's revenue maintenance programme of works including maintenance schemes, road reconstruction and associated drainage and kerbing works, highway and footway re-surfacing schemes and general highway maintenance including reactive pothole, gully cleansing and masonry repairs.

The post holder may be required to work on other aspects of highways schemes as directed.

The candidate will hold a current full driving licence with significant experience of working within the highway construction and maintenance sector.

As this role involves working on the highway network, we also require someone with an excellent awareness of health and safety legislation and traffic management systems pertaining to highways construction and maintenance.
