Balfour Beatty Living Places is recruiting a Highways Maintenance Operative based in Sleaford, Lincolnshire. You will join a dedicated operational team to maintain and improve local highways, ensuring safety and accessibility for communities.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Full UK Driving Licence and a strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Pride in delivering quality workmanship with high standards.
  • Honest, trustworthy and committed to acting with integrity.
  • Flexible approach to overtime and shift working when required.
  • Experience in highways maintenance is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out bridge and culvert maintenance including deep excavations, shoring, formwork, concrete pours and repairs.
  • Work safely at all times and support a Zero Harm culture.
  • Report observations and near-misses to support continual improvement.
  • Ensure all work complies with statutory requirements, procedures and quality standards.
  • Use plant, equipment and machinery effectively to deliver safe, efficient work.
  • Manage materials and resources to support successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, stakeholders and customers to provide excellent service.
  • Support emergency response, winter maintenance and out-of-hours activities as required.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to work overtime and alternate shift patterns.

About The Role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our UKCS Living Places business, based in Sleaford, Lincolnshire.

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving the local highway network, helping to keep roads, footways and public spaces safe and accessible for local communities. Working as part of a dedicated operational team, you will undertake a variety of maintenance and construction activities, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

Our Living Places teams work in partnership with Local Authorities to develop, manage and maintain essential infrastructure that communities rely on every day, creating safer, more sustainable and better-connected places for people to live and work.

What you\'ll be doing
  • Carrying out a wide range of bridge and culvert maintenance activities including deep excavations, installing shoring, formwork installation, concrete pours, concrete repairs, and reinstatement works.
  • Working safely at all times and supporting a culture of Zero Harm.
  • Reporting observations, close calls and good practices to support continual improvement.
  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with statutory requirements, company procedures and quality standards.
  • Using plant, equipment and machinery effectively to deliver work safely and efficiently.
  • Managing materials and resources responsibly to support successful project delivery.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders and customers to provide an excellent service.
  • Supporting emergency response requirements, winter maintenance operations and out-of-hours activities when required.
  • Demonstrating flexibility to work overtime and alternative shift patterns to meet operational requirements.
  • Acting as a positive ambassador for Balfour Beatty at all times.

Essential
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Pride in delivering quality workmanship.
  • Honest, trustworthy and committed to acting with integrity.
  • Flexible approach to overtime and shift working when required.
Desirable
  • Experience within highways maintenance, groundworks or construction environments.
  • EUSR excavation qualifications.
  • Confined Space training.
  • NRSWA accreditation.
  • CSCS Highway Maintenance card.
  • Class 1 or Class 2 LGV licence.
  • Driver CPC qualification.
  • Telehandler training and/or vacuum excavation experience.
