Job summary

Opus People Solutions is recruiting for three Highway Maintenance Officers on a hybrid basis with a 37-hour week. The role is with Cambridgeshire County Council, requiring attendance at depots and site locations four days per week.

The position offers £250 per day umbrella and runs until March 2027. Responsibilities include inspections, defect investigations, emergency response, coordinating contractors, and engaging with communities and elected members.

Qualifications

• Experience within Highways & Transport in a similar role.
• Reactive highway maintenance activities and coordinating emergency responses.
• Highway inspections, defect identification and maintenance management.
• Managing customer reports and enquiries through digital systems.
• Working with elected members and managing stakeholder relationships proactively.
• Highway legislation, maintenance standards and inspection procedures.
• Holding a current Highway Safety Inspector qualification with an in-date certificate.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine highway safety inspections across roads, footways, cycleways and public rights of way.
• Investigate reported defects, drainage issues and highway maintenance concerns.
• Respond to highway incidents including flooding, traffic collisions, oil spills and other emergencies.
• Order, coordinate and monitor highway maintenance works through contractors.
• Plan and prioritise reactive, preventative and cyclical maintenance programmes.
• Engage with local communities, Parish and Town Councils, elected members and other stakeholders.
• Record inspections, defects and customer enquiries through digital management systems.
• Ensure the highway network is maintained safely and in accordance with legislation, policies and standards.
