Your new company

On behalf of a market leader in the highways term maintenance industry, we are looking to onboard a Highways Maintenance Manager. With 40 years of experience in the industry, this company provides award-winning civil engineering programmes and highway services to a number of public sector clients. Working alongside local authorities, they aim to create communities where people want to live, work, and play.

Your new role

You will be tasked with ensuring best practice operations and maintenance activities are carried out, helping to raise the quality of life for those working and living or visiting London.

You will be responsible for implementing changes to ensure efficiencies, working alongside leadership that supports your initiatives. This is a contract role based in Belvedere, South-East London.

Your responsibilities will include:

1. Managing operational health, safety, and environmental matters and promoting improvements.
2. Developing, implementing, and improving the Plans and Strategies associated with the highway maintenance service in London.
3. Representing the Highway Service at meetings with Transport for London, London Borough Clients, and key stakeholder groups such as local businesses, neighboring Authorities, and public inquiries.
4. Ensuring compliance with the business and Authority’s policies and strategies.
5. Ensuring that Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and COSHH Assessments are carried out in a timely manner and that improvement activities are fully resourced to deliver value.
6. Developing, promoting, and overseeing recycling activities and water and carbon reduction targets.
7. Assisting with the formulation and review of recruitment and training strategies.
8. Working with the HSE team under CDM regulations to ensure safe construction and maintenance practices.

• Experience in highways maintenance or a related field, ideally in a leadership or management role.

• Competence in writing procedures and establishing systems that promote best practices in customer care, quality, value for money, continuous improvement, and equality of opportunity.
