Job summary

Westmorland and Furness Council is recruiting Highways Operatives to perform a range of highways maintenance and construction duties. You will operate small plant, manage traffic, clear ditches, carry out ground maintenance and minor drainage works, plus support on emergencies and adverse weather response.

Successful candidates will have a full UK Driving Licence, relevant field experience with plant/equipment, and a willingness to travel across Cumbria.

Qualifications

• Full UK Driving Licence is essential.
• Experience with plant and equipment used in highways work.
• Ability to travel across Cumbria and surrounding areas.
• Customer-focused approach with good communication.

Responsibilities

• Carry out highways maintenance and construction tasks using small plant.
• Manage traffic on single and dual carriageways and perform ditch clearing.
• Carry out ground maintenance, minor drainage works and small civil repairs.
• Support out of hours emergency and adverse weather response teams.
• Assist Team Leaders with inspection and repair of the highway network and respond to service requests.
• Ensure work is performed with focus on safety, performance and quality, and travel as required across Cumbria.
