Job summary

Suffolk County Council is seeking a Highway Licensing Inspector to manage and protect Suffolk's highway network. The role involves office work and site inspections across the county, assessing applications and inspecting works to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

You will provide expert advice to residents, businesses and councils, balance customer needs with safe operations, and support enforcement activities to promote compliance and quality public spaces.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.
• Good knowledge and experience of the Highway Act in licensing or enforcement.
• Experience providing comprehensive advice to customer enquiries and works.
• Knowledge and ability to work safely on live carriageways.

Responsibilities

• Assess and inspect highway applications including skips, scaffolding and pavement cafés.
• Investigate proposals, inspect completed works and ensure highway safety and design standards.
• Provide expert advice to residents, businesses and councils and resolve licensing infringements.
• Support enforcement activities and educate customers to ensure compliance.
