The team is the first on the scene to assist road users, deliver engineering design, and operational services across more than 600 kilometres of road and 1,650 structures, ensuring reliable journey times and high customer care for users and businesses.

By maintaining roads and highways through all weather conditions and traffic incidents, we aim to create safe, well-functioning spaces that minimize disruption, keep people moving, and support thriving communities.

The Highways Inspector role

The Highways Inspector plays a key part in collecting safety data and identifying future improvements to safeguard the travelling public, clients, and Amey.

Working hours

The standard hours are 40 per week, Monday to Friday. We value work-life balance and offer flexible, hybrid, and part-time working options, with a network of offices across the UK to discuss suitable arrangements.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections according to the Well-Maintained Highways Code of Practice
  • Collect data on highways inventory and manage GIS databases
  • Ensure contract compliance on data quality
  • Develop reports and assist with project administration
  • Follow health and safety legislation
  • Assist with planning and investigations
  • Support Transport Scotland with planning and development applications
What makes this role unique

If you join our team, you'll focus on the parts of your role you enjoy most. You'll work closely with clients to build relationships and develop your skills and leadership capabilities through comprehensive training. Our collaborative environment supports your career growth.

Candidate requirements

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Good project management knowledge
  • Proficient in IT packages like MS Office
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Ideally, you will have relevant inspector qualifications, including defect identification, monitoring, and PHS certification. Holding CSCS health and safety certification is essential.
