Job summary

Hampshire County Council is recruiting an Assistant Highway Engineer to support the Highways team in Hampshire. You will assist with technical support, inspections, and developing solutions while coordinating with contractors and local stakeholders to keep roads safe and well maintained.

You will also participate in training opportunities, including a Level 3 Civil Engineering apprenticeship, and respond to weather-related emergencies as part of a flexible, dynamic role within the department.

Qualifications

• Appropriate highways experience and flexibility to manage a workload with minimal supervision.
• Must have a current driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• Training opportunity incl. Level 3 Civil Engineering apprenticeship as described.

Responsibilities

• Assist Highway Engineers with technical support and inspect highways.
• Raise works orders and monitor sites and audits to ensure high standards.
• Coordinate with contractors, stakeholders and local teams; respond to emergencies as needed.
• Support mentoring/training of junior staff where required.
