Job summary

Hampshire County Council is recruiting an Assistant Highway Engineer to support the Highways team in delivering the Highways Maintenance service in Hampshire. The role is based at Bishops Waltham Highway Depot and involves inspections, raising works orders and coordinating with contractors and local stakeholders.

You will assist with site visits, emergency response, and preventative maintenance planning, with opportunities for on-the-job training and a Level 3 Civil Engineering apprenticeship.

Qualifications

• Appropriate highways experience and the ability to travel with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to work out of hours to respond to weather and emergencies.
• Current driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

• Assist Highway Engineers with technical support and carry out highway inspections.
• Raise works orders and conduct site audits to ensure high standards.
• Mentor junior staff and provide training where required.
