Do you want a role where no two days are the same, and where your work directly influences how development happens on the ground?

An opportunity has arisen for an Officer to join the Highways Development Control team at Bridgend County Borough Council, within the Planning and Development Services Group. The team works at the heart of the planning process, advising on the transport and highway implications of development across the borough, from smaller schemes through to more complex and high-profile proposals.

The role involves assessing planning applications with highway and transport implications, reviewing technical information such as transport assessments, undertaking site visits, and helping to shape clear, practical and proportionate highway responses. You will work closely with planners, developers, consultants and engineers, gaining exposure to how transport considerations are balanced alongside planning, design and place-making.

You will be expected to bring a sound understanding of highways or transport-related issues, and an appreciation of how development impacts on the highway network. Familiarity with transport assessment principles and tools commonly used in development planning will be beneficial, but this role is equally about judgement, communication and problem-solving. You will manage an appropriate caseload with support from more experienced colleagues, building confidence and capability as your experience develops.

This role would suit someone with experience or exposure in highways, transport or planning who is looking to work in a varied, applied role that sits at the crossroads of policy, engineering and real-world development.
