Job summary

BEAR Scotland is recruiting a Highway Maintenance Operative with a HGV Licence to join our Scotland-wide operations. This full-time permanent role involves day and night shifts, standby rota and overtime, and reporting to the Operations Supervisor and Manager to help keep Scotland moving.

The role covers signage, drainage and kerb work, road furniture installation, plant operation, and safe driving. Applicants must hold a full UK Driving Licence and a Class 2 Licence, be able to reach the depot

Qualifications

• Full UK Driving Licence essential.
• Class 2 Licence essential.
• Experience in roadworks or similar construction environment desirable.
• Willingness to undertake training and achieve competency across key aspects of the role.
• Solid understanding of Health & Safety Regulations and a commitment to safe working practices.
• Ability to work in demanding outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities

• The erection and removal of temporary signs and barriers (permanent signs and barriers).
• Drainage works, excavation, pipe laying, kerb laying, scrub cutting.
• Installation and fixing of temporary/permanent road furniture.
• Operation of power tools, small plant and machinery, specifically landscaping equipment.
• Driving vehicles including those with simple attachments.
• Responsibility for the health and safety of the public, colleagues and yourself.
• Participating in our winter response service on a standby rota basis.
• Winter maintenance duties which include fitting gritter body and blade, driving gritter and spread salt by hand if required.
