Job summary

BEAR Scotland Limited is seeking a Civils Highway Maintenance Operative to join our operations team in Chryston. The role reports to the Operations Supervisors and involves 40 hours per week with overtime and a standby on-call rota to keep Scotland moving.

This full-time, permanent position covers a range of duties from laying and maintaining road surfaces to drainage works, road furniture installation, and winter maintenance. A valid UK driving licence is preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a roadworker is desirable, however training can be provided.
• There is a requirement to undertake training and to achieve competence in aspects of the job.
• Knowledge of the requirement for Health and Safety rules and procedures.
• Physically fit for working in sometimes arduous conditions.
• Experience of using small plant.
• Holding tickets for plant, traffic management, and Health and Safety an advantage.
• Full UK driving license preferably at LGV Class C level.

Responsibilities

• The erection and removal of temporary signs and barriers (permanent signs and barriers).
• Preparation, application, compaction and removal of soils, rocks, coated and other materials.
• Hot material patching by hand.
• Drainage works, excavation, pipe laying, kerb laying, scrub cutting.
• Installation and fixing of temporary/permanent road furniture.
• Operation of power tools, small plant and machinery.
• Driving vehicles including those with simple attachments such as tractors.
• Responsibility for the health and safety of the public, colleagues and yourself.
• Participating in our winter and emergency response service on a standby rota basis.
• Winter maintenance duties which include fitting gritter body and blade, driving gritter and spread salt by hand if required.
