Job summary

Dovetail and Slate Ltd is seeking a Highway Maintenance Assessor to join our team in the West Midlands. You will assess apprentices working towards their Highway Maintenance apprenticeship standard, visiting them in the workplace to track progress and support their development.

The role involves planning reviews with employers and tutors, recording evidence, and preparing learners for their end-point assessment, including knowledge tests and practical tasks covering road maintenance works.

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification in highway maintenance, or significant industry experience.
• Experience mentoring or supporting learners.
• Comfortable working outdoors and around skilled tradespeople.
• Ability to build relationships with employers and tutors.

Responsibilities

• Assess apprentices' progress in essential road maintenance skills, including surface repair and kerb and pavement maintenance.
• Conduct regular reviews with the apprentice, employer and tutor to discuss progress and achievements.
• Support apprentices to gather off-the-job learning hours, functional skills and record of evidence needed to reach Gateway.
• Prepare apprentices for their end-point assessment, including knowledge test and practical task covering bitumen laying, kerb laying, and concrete or modular paving.
• Confirm learner competency alongside the employer ahead of Gateway.

Are you an experienced highway maintenance professional looking to share your skills with the next generation of technicians?

About the Role

As a Highway Maintenance Assessor, you'll assess apprentices working towards their Highways Maintenance apprenticeship standard, visiting them in the workplace to track their progress and support their development.

You'll join a further education provider in the West Midlands, working closely with employers, tutors and apprentices to plan reviews, record evidence of progress and prepare learners for their end-point assessment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assessing apprentices' progress in essential road maintenance skills, including surface repair and kerb and pavement maintenance.
• Conducting regular reviews with the apprentice, employer and tutor to discuss progress and achievements.
• Supporting apprentices to gather the off-the-job learning hours, functional skills and record of evidence needed to reach Gateway.
• Preparing apprentices for their end-point assessment, including the knowledge test and the practical task covering bitumen laying, kerb laying, and concrete or modular paving.
• Confirming learner competency alongside the employer ahead of Gateway.

Essential Qualification
