EQUANS is looking for a Highway Inspector to join our team in Grimsby.

This is a permanent part-time role, ideally working Monday to Wednesday from 8.30am to 5pm. We are flexible on hours for the right candidate. The salary ranges between £15,000 and £16,000, depending on skills and experience, along with a benefits package.

What will you deliver?

The individual will be part of a team responsible for ensuring the Local Authority discharges its statutory duty for highway inspection, assessment, and maintenance, ensuring safety, serviceability, and sustainability. Responsibilities include investigating breaches of planning and highway legislation, undertaking inspections, assessments, and maintenance, and supporting legal defenses under the Highways Act.

  1. Inspect, investigate, and order works to maintain highway safety.
  2. Conform to legislation, policies, and standards for highway maintenance.
  3. Maintain accurate records for future reference and legal defense.
  4. Assist with processing third-party insurance claims, including providing inspection records and court testimonies.
  5. Establish effective relationships with stakeholders such as client officers, the public, and emergency services.
  6. Investigate stakeholder inquiries and advise on solutions.
  7. Assist with freedom of information requests.
  8. Inspect work of contractors and ensure compliance with standards.
  9. Identify and report on major improvement works beyond reactive maintenance.
  10. Provide advice and intervene to stop unsafe practices when necessary.
  11. Assist with enforcement of relevant legislation and applications for crossings.
