Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a General Foreman to lead a major highways scheme in Goole, East Yorkshire. You will oversee day-to-day site operations, supervise operatives and subcontractors, and coordinate with the Site Agent and Works Manager to keep the programme on track.

The role demands a proven highways/civil background, strong leadership, and certification in CSCS and SMSTS/SSSTS. Safety, planning and effective communication are essential to drive successful project delivery and career

Qualifications

• Experience as General Foreman or similar on highways/civil schemes.
• Strong background delivering highways construction works and earthworks.
• Leadership of site teams and coordination of subcontractors.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specs.
• Certified health and safety qualifications such as SSSTS/SMSTS and CSCS.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing

• You will oversee day-to-day site operations, ensuring highways and civil engineering works are delivered safely and efficiently.
• You will supervise and coordinate site operatives, subcontractors and specialist trades to ensure works progress in line with the construction programme.
• You will work closely with the Site Agent and Works Manager to plan activities, allocate resources and manage daily site requirements.
• You will ensure labour, plant, materials and subcontractors are organised effectively to maintain productivity.
• You will monitor progress against programme targets, identifying potential delays and implementing practical solutions.
• You will ensure all site activities comply with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• You will deliver site briefings, toolbox talks and daily coordination meetings to maintain safe working practices.
• You will review and implement risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
• You will maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, labour returns and progress reports.
• You will liaise with Engineers, Supervisors and subcontractors to ensure works are completed to specification.

What You’ll Need

• Previous experience as a General Foreman, Section Foreman or Senior Foreman within highways or civil engineering.
• A strong background in delivering highways construction schemes, including earthworks, drainage, road construction or associated infrastructure works.
• Experience supervising site teams, subcontractors and construction activities.
• A good understanding of construction programmes, site productivity and resource management.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
• The ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and method statements.
• Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Relevant industry certifications such as SSSTS or SMSTS and CSCS.
