Job summary

Calibre Search is seeking a Senior Highway Engineer to lead designs on highways and transportation schemes in the Leeds area.

You will prepare detailed drawings and reports, ensuring compliance with UK standards and contributing to project delivery on time and within budget. This role also offers mentoring opportunities for junior engineers and a path to technical excellence within a fast-paced consultancy.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• Minimum 3 years' experience in transportation/highways design.
• Chartered Engineer status (or working towards chartership).
• Strong knowledge of DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, MCHW.
• Experience preparing works contract documentation and specifications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced consultancy environment.
• Fluent or highly proficient in written and spoken English.

The Role

You will work on projects such as:

• Highways and major roads
• Bridges and structures
• Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
• Active travel (cycleways and pedestrian schemes)
• Public transport infrastructure

Projects span the full asset lifecycle, from early feasibility and modelling through detailed design, construction support, and long-term asset management.

Senior Highway Engineer Responsibilities
