Carrington West is seeking a Senior Highways Engineer to lead the design and delivery of highway schemes across the UK. You will take ownership of projects, guide design delivery, and mentor junior team members.

You will work through full lifecycle from feasibility to detailed design, technical approvals, and construction support on a range of schemes from access upgrades to complex junctions. This role demands strong UK highway design expertise and collaborative stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Experience in UK highway design.
• Proficient in Civils 3D or equivalent.
• Experience designing complex junctions including roundabouts.
• Knowledge of Section 278 agreements and approvals.
• Good knowledge of DMRB standards and TSRGD.
• Experience in highway drainage design and SuDS knowledge (advantageous).
• Strong communication and multidisciplinary teamwork.
• Mentoring and supporting junior engineers.
• Proactive and able to manage multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of highway schemes, including junction improvements, access arrangements, and roundabouts.
• Produce high-quality designs using Civils 3D and related design software.
• Prepare and support submissions for Section 278 technical approval with Local Highway Authorities.
• Ensure all designs comply with DMRB, TSRGD, and UK standards.
• Undertake and review highway geometry, swept path analysis, and safety considerations.
• Develop drainage solutions, including surface water management.
• Liaise with clients, authorities, and internal teams through design/approval.
• Mentor and support junior engineers within the team.
• Participate in project planning, design reviews, and QA processes.

Senior Highways Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Highways Engineer to join a dynamic transport and infrastructure design team delivering a wide range of development-led highway schemes across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer to take ownership of projects, lead on design delivery, and support the development of junior team members.

You will be involved in the full lifecycle of highway scheme, from early feasibility through to detailed design, technical approvals, and construction support, working on projects ranging from access improvements to complex junction and roundabout designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of highway schemes, including junction improvements, access arrangements, and roundabouts
• Produce high-quality designs using Civils 3D and related design software
• Prepare and support submissions for Section 278 technical approval in collaboration with Local Highway Authorities
• Ensure all designs comply with DMRB, TSRGD, and relevant UK design standards
