Job summary

Cambridgeshire County Council is seeking an Asset Systems Engineer to lead the development and delivery of highway asset management systems. You will drive data-driven decisions, support governance, and partner with suppliers to ensure systems deliver value for residents across Cambridgeshire.

This role combines engineering, digital technology, data analytics and leadership, with opportunities to mentor colleagues, shape investment strategies, and champion innovation across the highways service.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of asset management systems and their practical application.
• Experience analysing and interpreting complex data sets.
• Knowledge of highway asset management principles and maintenance practices.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Experience leading projects, programmes, or system improvements.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice.
• Experience within highways, construction, infrastructure, engineering, or a related asset management environment.
• Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, management, and continuous improvement of highway asset systems.
• Transform data into actionable intelligence to support investment decisions and maintenance programmes.
• Monitor performance through KPIs, dashboards, and reporting tools.
• Act as the service's technical expert on asset systems and data management.
• Manage system procurements and support project delivery from specification through implementation.
• Work with suppliers and partners to ensure systems continue to meet organisational needs.
• Support and mentor colleagues, including oversight of the Asset Systems Officer workload.
• Deliver training and promote best practice across the service.
• Support councillors and stakeholders with asset information and insights.
• Explore innovative technologies, digital processes, and new ways of working.
