Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
NHS AfC: Band 7
Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our acute team working across The Princess Royal and The Royal Shrewsbury Hospitals. Those in an existing band 7 role or looking for a developmental position as a stepping stone between Band 6 and Band 7 are welcome to apply as training and support can be given to develop leadership and clinical skills. Ideally you will have completed or started Vidoefluroscopy or FEES competencies.

Our team has access to a videofluoroscopy service and we are in the process of setting up a Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) service.
We have regular access to CPD both within our acute team and our wider SLT team which includes SLTs working in head and neck cancer, community hospitals, outpatients, voice, domiciliary and our local spinal injury centre. There will be opportunities to gain skills in organising and creating training, developing supervision skills, and opportunities to gain experience with instrumental swallowing assessment. Cross site working with our sister hospital (Royal Shrewsbury Hospital) may be required and provides an opportunity to learn from our wider acute inpatient team."

This post holder will be supported with their clinical learning and development by our Band 8a Instrumental Assessment & Complex Dysphagia SLT.

Main duties of the job

To assess, diagnose/ interpret and manage a shared specialist caseload of complex patients as an autonomous practitioner.

The job will include working in a wide variety of areas - general medical, elderly care, respiratory, cardiac, renal, surgical, gastro, critical care and also will allow opportunities to work alongside other specialist clinical teams such as end of life care, dementia, dental hygienist, social work.

Participation in a weekly videofluroscopy clinic.

Provide clinical support and leadership to the Speech and Language Therapy teams at The Royal Shrewsbury and The Princess Royal Hospital sites.

We have access to an annual PGM to link us to the wider profession across the county. We offer and implement regular management and clinical supervision across the whole of therapies, as well as weekly huddles and monthly meetings allowing for group discussions around cases and service development
