Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist with enthusiasm and interest in working with older people to join a friendly and supportive memory assessment service. The post is advertised at Band 8a, though we strongly encourage psychologists in clinical training or those working at Band 7 to apply for the post on a preceptorship basis.

Main duties of the job

The psychology resource within Bolton Memory Assessment Service consists of a Principal Clinical Psychologist, Assistant Psychologist, and trainees on placement, who are all a core part of the wider service MDT. We have good links with the Northwest clinical psychology training programs and Northwest FPOP. The postholder would also have links with the wider Older People's psychology service in GMMH. As a group, we meet twice annually for continuing professional development, as well as other regular forums, and opportunities for further training are encouraged and supported.

Band

Working hours include Saturday (midnight to midnight), any weekday after 8 pm and before 6 am, and all time on Sundays and Public Holidays (midnight to midnight).

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Eligibility to register as a clinical/counselling psychologist with the HCPC.
  • Training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological relevance (e.g., neuropsychology, specific therapeutic modalities).
  • Completion of a recognised UK DClin course and supervisor training programme for the supervision of DClin psychologists in training.
Experience
  • Experience of specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment and treatment of older people, especially in the context of organic presentations like dementia, across various care settings.
  • Significant experience in diagnostic neuropsychological assessment and cognitive rehabilitation interventions.
Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skills in providing consultation to professional and non-professional groups.
  • Ability to teach and train using complex multimedia materials suitable for diverse audiences.
  • Experience in supervising colleagues, both psychologists and non-psychologists.
Additional Information

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, requiring a Disclosure and Barring Service check for any previous criminal convictions.

Location: Bolton Memory Assessment Service, Breightmet Health Centre

Depending on experience, an option for full-time Band 7 preceptorship is available.
