Job summary

Woolmer Hill School in England is seeking a HLTA for a part-time, temporary role to cover a staff absence. You will support pupils from Reception to Year 6, deliver targeted interventions and work with the SENCo to identify needs.

Strong communication, initiative and creativity are essential, with a caring approach and the ability to work as part of a team to improve life chances for all pupils.

Qualifications

  • Experience with children with complex needs is beneficial.
  • HLTA experience or equivalent qualifications.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy (A–C GCSE or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Cover release times across Reception to Year 6.
  • Support pupils' learning under the class teacher's direction.
  • Cover classes during staff training or absence.
  • Plan and deliver targeted interventions for pastoral and academic progress.
  • Work with the SENCo to identify and support individual needs.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation using nurturing approaches.
  • Supervise lunchtime duties as part of MTA role.

Job description

Temporary post to cover a staff absence - 33.75 hrs per week Monday to Friday 8.30am - 3.45pm Paid at NJC Grade A for MTA duty £12.85ph and Grade D for HLTA hours @ £13.90ph To commence as soon as possible September 2026 This post will involve:

  • Cover teachers' timetabled release time each week across the school, from Reception to Year 6.
  • Provide general support for pupils' learning under the direction of the class teacher.
  • Cover classes, when required, due to staff training and occasional staff absence.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate targeted interventions to support pupils' pastoral needs and academic progress.
  • Work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to identify and support individual pupil needs.
  • Provide support for pupils experiencing difficulties with emotional regulation.
  • Use nurturing and restorative approaches to help pupils manage challenges, develop positive strategies and succeed in school.

We are looking for someone with a strong, sensitive and caring approach to children's needs, who is able to be an effective communicator and think creatively. You will need to show a high degree of initiative and be solution focussed. It would also be beneficial to have experience of working with children with complex needs.

Ideally, you will:
  • Understand that children communicate in a variety of ways and we have a responsibility to meet the needs of all learners
  • Have HLTA experience and/or equivalent qualifications
  • Have excellent literacy and numeracy skills (A-C GCSE or equivalent)
  • Be able to build positive relationships with children, staff and parents
  • Have high expectations of children's behaviour and be able to maintain consistent boundaries
  • Be willing to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Be energetic, positive and enthusiastic
