Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for Billingham, with September 2026 start dates across primary schools in the area. Qualifications

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant is essential.
  • HLTA experience or experience leading learning activities is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the Primary curriculum.
  • Confident leading small groups and learning activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in delivering high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Lead lessons and learning activities when required.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to support pupil progress.
  • Support pupils across EYFS, KS1, and KS2.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Support pupils with SEND and additional learning needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Monitor and provide feedback on pupil progress.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and the wider school team.
  • Assist with classroom preparation and organisation.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and professional practice.

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Billingham

Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Billingham and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit passionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to join schools from September 2026.

Whether you're an experienced HLTA or an experienced Teaching Assistant looking to take the next step in your education career, we'd love to hear from you. We have a range of long-term and full-time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

You’ll play an important role within the classroom, supporting teachers, delivering learning activities, leading interventions, and providing high-quality support to pupils across the Primary age range.
