Job description

Are you an ambitious, kind and creative Higher Level Teaching Assistant with a strong commitment to SEND?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, child-centred and inspiring practitioner to join our KS2 team. Working under the guidance of senior leaders, the SENDCo and class teachers, you will help create and deliver high-quality, inclusive learning for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and additional needs.

The role includes planning, preparing and delivering bespoke learning activities for individuals, groups and, where required, whole classes. You will monitor progress, provide accurate feedback, support pupils' welfare and personal needs, and help children develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours.

As an excellent practitioner, you will:

  • Have proven experience of working with children of the relevant age in a learning environment, ideally including pupils with SEND.
  • Be able to plan and deliver enjoyable, inclusive and creative learning programmes, including a bespoke curriculum for pupils in Years 5 and 6.
  • Have experience of teaching groups, with high expectations for behaviour, learning and achievement.
  • Understand child development, barriers to learning and how to adapt teaching in response to individual needs.
  • Be confident in following EHCP objectives and implementing related interventions.
  • Build productive relationships with pupils, parents and carers, colleagues and external professionals.
  • Use ICT and specialist resources effectively to support learning and independence.
  • Be reflective, resilient, innovative and committed to ongoing professional development.
  • Be able to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants should have literacy and numeracy skills at least equivalent to grade 4. NVQ Level 4 for Teaching Assistants, equivalent HLTA standards or relevant experience is desirable, alongside training in SEND strategies or curriculum areas.

In return, we offer:

  • Children who are articulate, great fun, willing and eager to learn.
  • Kind, creative, positive and friendly colleagues.
  • A superb setting in extensive grounds bordered by fields and woodland, where high-quality outdoor learning is encouraged.
  • The opportunity to help create and deliver an exciting, relevant and engaging curriculum.
  • A varied role supporting pupils across different learning experiences, with opportunities to develop your professional expertise.

Bradley Barton Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS check will be completed as part of the job offer process.
