About the Provision:
An established and supportive Alternative Provision in Southport is seeking a committed and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their dedicated team. The provision offers a nurturing and structured environment for young people who require a more tailored approach to education, supporting them in developing key life skills and achieving meaningful qualifications.
The Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a HLTA with a strong understanding of Functional Skills (English and Maths) and Health & Social Care. The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering small group sessions and supporting students on a 1:1 basis, ensuring they remain engaged, confident, and on track with their learning. You will work alongside teaching staff and other professionals to provide consistency, encouragement, and structure to students who may have faced barriers in mainstream education.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver and support the teaching of Functional Skills and Health & Social Care to small groups and individuals.
Support learners with a range of social, emotional, and educational needs in a flexible and personalised manner.
Assist in planning, preparing, and evaluating lessons and learning materials.
Foster positive relationships to help re-engage learners and encourage their personal and academic development.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies to support progress and wellbeing.
Contribute to behaviour management strategies and the creation of a calm, inclusive learning environment.
Requirements:
Previous experience working as a HLTA or experienced Teaching Assistant, ideally within an alternative provision, PRU, or SEN setting.
Strong subject knowledge in Functional Skills (Maths and English) and Health & Social Care.
A nurturing and resilient approach, with the ability to build trust and rapport with young people who have additional needs.
Confidence in delivering learning content and supporting differentiated activities.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
HLTA status or equivalent qualification is desirable.
