Job description

Higher Level Teaching Assistant Job in Portsmouth

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work with a school in Portsmouth on a long term basis. As a HLTA you will be working across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 providing PPA cover for the class teacher. You will be working from preplanned lessons provided by the class teacher.

This is a long-term temporary position starting in September 2025 until February 2026, covering maternity leave. This is a part time position, 3 days a week.

Key Details:

Position: Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Start Date: September 2025

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement tailored strategies to support the child's communication and interaction needs
  • Foster a calm, nurturing, and patient learning environment
  • Work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to ensure the child's needs are met effectively
  • Monitor and report on the child's progress, adjusting support as necessary
  • Lead from pre planned lessons across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working in the classroom
  • Experience working as a HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) or Cover Supervisor across Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with the child
