Job summary

The Hemel Hempstead School is seeking a dedicated Higher-Level Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEND and help raise achievement.

The role is 33.75 hours per week, term-time plus INSET, with an actual salary of £20,846 per annum, starting October 2026 or ASAP.

You will work under the SENDCo and Deputy SENDCo delivering targeted interventions and supporting colleagues to ensure high-quality inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Experience of supporting pupils with SEND including planning interventions.
  • Ability to lead on a specific SEND area.
  • Experience of working with a range of abilities and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Leading on a specific area of SEND by setting targets and delivering interventions.
  • Support students across different levels and with varying needs.
  • Collaborate with the learning support team to deliver interventions.
  • Support progression of targeted students to make progress.
  • Lead other support staff to provide high-quality SEND support.
  • Work with small groups or whole classes under SENDCo direction.
  • Report to class teacher and SENDCo to ensure joined-up support.
  • Help fulfil SEND Code of Practice responsibilities.

Hemel Hempstead School is looking to appoint a dedicated Higher-Level Teaching Assistant.

We are a popular oversubscribed school where traditional values are combined with the latest technology to deliver a very effective and modern curriculum.

Key Area’s of Responsibility
  • Leading on a specific area of SEND by setting student targets, planning and delivering high-quality intervention.
  • Working at all levels.
  • Support the social and emotional inclusion of students who are functioning significantly below their chronological age.
  • Supporting colleagues within the learning support team to deliver intervention and provide support to students, ensuring high quality and consistency.
  • Demonstrating an informed and efficient approach to SEND support by adopting relevant strategies to ensure targeted students make progress.
  • Working with small groups of children or supporting whole classes, under the direction of the SENDCo AND Deputy SENDCo.
  • Leading other support staff in ensuring high quality support for children with SEND, as well as other groups of children being supported in the classroom and The Hub, our SEND base.
  • Reporting to the class teacher and SENDCo, creating a ‘joined up’ approach to the support of pupils with a variety of needs including learning, behavioural, communication, social, sensory or physical difficulties and medical needs.
  • Post holders will support the school to fulfil its responsibilities under the SEND Code of Practice.
