Job summary

Closeburn House School within Outcomes First Group is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to lead learning activities, support teachers in planning and deliver targeted interventions. The HLTA will help pupils overcome barriers to learning and work closely with a multidisciplinary team to promote confidence and independence.

The role emphasizes safeguarding and building positive relationships with pupils, families and staff, with a drive to ensure every child reaches their full potential

Qualifications

  • Holds SCQF Level 6 (or equivalent).
  • Is passionate about helping children and young people achieve their full potential.
  • Has a strong understanding of teaching and learning and can confidently lead learning activities.
  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, colleagues and families.
  • Is organised, proactive and able to adapt to the changing needs of the school.
  • Communicates effectively and works collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Holds a Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging learning activities to individuals, small groups and whole classes under the guidance of a teacher.
  • Support teachers with planning, preparing and adapting lessons to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Deliver targeted interventions in literacy, numeracy and other curriculum areas to accelerate pupil progress.
  • Monitor, assess and record pupil achievement, providing feedback to support future learning.
  • Help create positive, inclusive learning environments where pupils feel confident, supported and motivated.
  • Mentor and support Teaching Assistants, promoting high standards and collaborative working.
  • Prepare and organise learning resources, classroom environments and teaching materials.
  • Support educational visits, enrichment activities and the wider life of the school.

  • Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant
  • Location: Closeburn House School, Dumfriesshire, DG3 5HP
  • Hours: 40 hours per week | Monday–Friday
  • Salary: £24,876 per annum (not pro rata)
  • Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
  • Start: July 2026
