Are you an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant looking for your next exciting and rewarding opportunity? We re currently searching for passionate and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistants to join several inclusive and forward-thinking primary schools in Newport. Role Overview
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will be a vital part of the classroom team. You ll lead learning sessions when the teacher is away, work closely with pupils both individually and in groups, and help create a positive learning environment across Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2. Your skills as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant will support pupils with a range of needs, ensuring every child gets the help they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead whole-class lessons confidently in the absence of the teacher, keeping pupils focused and motivated

  • Provide targeted support in-class to help pupils fully understand and engage with their learning

  • Work closely with children who have Additional Learning Needs (ALN) or Special Educational Needs (SEN) to support their progress

  • Encourage positive behaviour and promote an inclusive and supportive classroom atmosphere

  • Deliver one-to-one or small group interventions as part of personalised learning plans

  • Assist with preparing classroom resources and organising materials to support teaching and learning

  • Support day-to-day classroom management and help maintain discipline and order

Who We re Looking For

  • Experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant within a primary school setting

  • A Level 4 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent relevant experience

  • A calm and flexible approach, particularly when supporting pupils with behavioural or learning challenges

  • Confidence in working with children with SEN or ALN and a genuine commitment to their success

  • Strong communication skills and a team player attitude, ready to collaborate with teachers and school staff

  • A passion for continuous professional development and improving your teaching support skills

Requirements
