Job summary

UK Power Networks is seeking a High Voltage Control Engineer based in Ipswich to manage a section of the distribution network on a shift basis. You will work within Network Operations and Control, supporting 24/7 network operations and remote system control to ensure safe, rapid fault response and regulatory compliance.

The role requires experience with SCADA, strong safety focus, and the ability to advise field staff and Operations Centre.

Qualifications

• ONC or equivalent required; HNC desirable.
• Experience as Authorised Person/Senior Authorised Person or Control Engineer on distribution systems desirable.
• Understanding of Distribution Safety Rules and related electrical safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manage a section of the distribution network using SCADA and other network information systems.
• Provide rapid restoration of supply in fault situations.
• Provide technical advice to field operators and Operations Centre staff.
• Sanction the issue of safety documents.
• Comply with fault reporting requirements.
• Check and authorise planned high voltage schedules to ensure compliance with Distribution Safety rules.
• Maintain awareness of customer requirements and provide relevant information.
• Mentor other members of the control team.
• Minimise Customer Minutes Lost (CMLs) and Customer Interruptions (CIs).
