Job summary

Mitie Cleaning & Hygiene Services at Pladis / McVitie's Carlisle is seeking a reliable High Level Hygiene Operative to join our hygiene team. The role involves carrying out specialist high-level cleaning across the site, including elevated surfaces, beams, pipework, framework and vents, to help maintain safe, clean food manufacturing areas and support site standards.

This role requires working 40 hours per week with a 06:00–14:00/06:00–18:00 schedule and reports to Hygiene Supervisor/Senior

• Experience in hygiene, cleaning or food manufacturing environments.
• Ability to work at height and follow site procedures, training provided.

Responsibilities

• Carry out high-level cleaning tasks on elevated structures, beams, pipework and other designated areas according to site procedures.
• Clean overhead structures, ledges, walls and other high-level surfaces to prevent contamination.
• Remove dust, debris and residue safely while using approved access equipment.
• Maintain cleaning records and report any hazards or defects promptly.
• Support periodic and specialist cleaning activities across the site.

Pay/Salary: £14.08 per hour
Location: Pladis, 54 Church Street, Caldewgate, Carlisle, Cumbria, England, CA2 5TG

We are looking for a reliable, safety-focused and detail-driven High Level Hygiene Operative to join our hygiene team at Pladis / McVitie's Carlisle.
This role is responsible for carrying out specialist high-level cleaning across the site, helping to maintain safe, clean and compliant food manufacturing areas. You will be involved in cleaning elevated surfaces, overhead structures, beams, pipework, framework, vents, ledges, walls, external equipment surfaces and other high-level areas where dust, debris or product residue may build up.
This is an important specialist hygiene role that supports food safety, audit readiness, contamination control and overall site standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out allocated high-level cleaning tasks in line with site procedures, Cleaning Work Instructions and hygiene schedules.
• Clean overhead structures, high-level ledges, beams, pipework, framework, vents, walls and other designated elevated areas.
• Remove dust, debris, product residue, cobwebs, build-up and other contamination risks safely and effectively.
• Use approved access equipment and cleaning equipment correctly, where trained and authorised.
• Support periodic, deep-clean and specialist cleaning activities across the site.
• Ensure cleaning is completed in a controlled way to prevent contamination of production areas, equipment, ingredients or packaging.
• Follow all working at height procedures, risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
• Use the correct PPE and safety equipment for each task.
• Report damage, defects, access issues, unsafe conditions, pest concerns or hygiene risks immediately.
• Complete cleaning records and task documentation accurately and on time.
• Work positively as part of the hygiene team and support wider site cleaning requirements where required.

What We Are Looking For

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Previous experience in hygiene, cleaning, food manufacturing, facilities, industrial cleaning or a similar environment.
• Confidence working at height, where trained and authorised.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards.
• A good understanding of hygiene, housekeeping and food safety expectations.
• A strong commitment to health and safety.
• Ability to follow instructions, procedures and safe systems of work.
• Good communication skills and the confidence to report concerns quickly.
• A flexible and reliable approach to work.
• Ability to work as part of a team in a busy food manufacturing environment.

Previous high-level cleaning, industrial cleaning, food manufacturing, PASMA or IPAF experience would be beneficial, but full training will be provided for the right candidate
