Job summary

McLaren Racing seeks a Mechatronics/Automotive Engineer to design and implement advanced ride dynamics controls. The role focuses on chassis control systems, torque management, and active suspension development for high-performance vehicles.

You will collaborate to translate concepts into production-ready software in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate has a strong background in vehicle dynamics, hands-on experience with Matlab/Simulink, and a track record in model-based control

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechatronics or Automotive Engineering with strong vehicle dynamics knowledge.
• Experience in Dynamics Controls at OEM or automotive supplier.
• Expert level Matlab/Simulink and familiarity with model-based control approaches.

Responsibilities

• Create a Matlab/Simulink high level controller for active/semi-active systems.
• Implement model-based control via Vi-Car Real Time.
• Run functional simulations and sensitivity analyses to define SW requirements.
• Develop from concept to production delivery of active systems.
• Define requirements at vehicle and system levels for ride performance.

Job description

This role is part of the Product Development department which likes to support an innovative and collaborative atmosphere therefore we are interested in a diverse background of talents and experience - Target setting, design and development of HLCS for active and semi/active systems affecting vehicle dynamics, in particular related to the chassis control system development (e.g. Torque management systems, active suspension, active aero systems, steering systems) - Represent the link between the Dynamics attribute team and the Controls development team - The role involves high competencies in general vehicle and ride dynamics, systems integration, and vehicle state estimation in order to define the right ride attributes at the vehicle level - Conduct concept work in Simulation environment for the evaluation of different strategies in line with the vehicle dynamics performance indexes, with focus on delivering systems in line with the McLaren DNA - Co-design of rapid prototyping SW together with the Controls Department that satisfies the Dynamics requirements while being oriented for production

What You'll Do

• Create a Matlab/Simulink high level controller
• Implementation of model-based control approach through Vi-Car Real Time
• Run functional simulation and sensitivity analysis for definition of SW requirements
• From concept to production development of active and semi-active systems
• Requirements definition at vehicle and system levels with focus on product development

What You'll Bring

• First-rate Mechatronics / Automotive Engineering degree, with excellent knowledge and understanding in vehicle-dynamics and controls
• Good amount of experience in Dynamics Controls at direct OEM or Automotive supplier
• More specifically, the required skills and level knowledge for this role are:
• o Matlab and Simulink - Expert Level
• o Vehicle dynamics simulation environment (i.e. VI Car Real Time ) - Expert User
• o Vehicle dynamics fundamentals - High Level
• o Control system design and tuning - Good Level
• o Chassis HW systems (i.e. tyres, steering, suspensions etc.) - Good Level
• o Data logging systems - Basic Level
• o SW calibration tools - Basic Level
• o CAN network architecture - Basic Level
• o Model based controls development - Very good plus
• o Vehicle state estimation development - Very good plus
• Mechatronics / Automotive Engineering Degree - PHD in Mechatronics Engineering advantageous - High competency in written and oral English language
