Job summary

Thompsons is seeking a Shift Supervisor to lead a busy HGV workshop in Stockton-on-Tees. You will manage staff, oversee repairs and maintenance, and liaise with the Workshop Controller to meet schedule targets.

The role requires an NVQ Level 3 in HGV Maintenance, at least 3 years as an HGV technician, and a full UK driving licence. You will mentor trainees, sign off work, and uphold health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in HGV Maintenance is required.
• HGV Technician with 3 years experience is preferred.
• Full UK driving licence is required.
• HGV driving licence preferable but not essential.
• Professionalism and ability to work in a busy workshop environment.

Responsibilities

• To take responsibility for the shift in terms of management of staff, repairs, maintenance and services scheduled, liaising with the Workshop Controller.
• To carry out inspections/repairs to VOSA & manufacturer’s standards ensuring components are fitted within book times.
• Train and mentor trainees and apprentices, providing guidance and support to develop their skills.
• Interpret repair order instructions and technical information.
• Communicate with the Workshop Controller on repairs requiring specialist skills or additional work.
• Sign off work and complete related paperwork for Workshop Controller/Shift Leader.
• Maintain CPD through training and reading technical bulletins.
• Carry out breakdowns, recovery duties, MOTs, PDI, fit accessories, electrical and tachograph work after training.
• Ensure professionalism and quality with customers and suppliers.
• Assist managers with new methods to improve efficiency.
• Care for tools and equipment and report defects.
• Comply with Safety Policy and report incidents promptly.
• Perform such other duties commensurate with the role.
