Get Staffed Online Recruitment is assisting a client in Walton-on-Thames to appoint an experienced HGV Workshop Manager. You will lead a team, oversee the in-house workshop, coordinate third‑party maintenance and ensure fleet safety, reliability and compliance with a strong focus on cost control and efficiency.

The role is full-time with a 7:00am start and negotiable finishing times. Salary £55,000–£60,000 per year depending on experience, plus a company pension and benefits including a pool car

Qualifications

• Experience running an HGV workshop or similar operation.
• Understanding PMIs, MOTs, defects and roadworthiness.
• Ability to manage damage repairs and coordinate insurance claims.

Responsibilities

• Running the workshop operation: oversee day-to-day activities and organise the workshop.
• Communication and vehicle availability: keep Transport Manager and team updated on defects and return-to-service times.
• Fleet maintenance and legal compliance: manage PMIs, servicing, repairs, MOT prep and defect rectification.
• Parts purchasing and cost control: identify and order required parts for servicing and repairs.
• Damage repairs and insurance claims: manage workshop responses for damage.
• Staff management and training: supervise workshop staff and allocate tasks.
• Third-party workshop and provider management: coordinate external providers.
• Reporting, systems and continuous improvement: ensure accurate recording of jobs, hours and costs on Raptor.

Our client is an established transport business providing specialist HGV and lorry-loader transport services across the South East and beyond. They are seeking an Experienced hands‑on HGV Workshop Manager to run their entire workshop operation, managing their in‑house workshop staff, coordinating third‑party maintenance providers and ensuring their fleet is maintained safely, efficiently and in full compliance with relevant requirements.They operate a fleet of over 50 HGVs, trailers, drawbar combinations and specialist lorry‑loader crane vehicles. This is a key operational management position, requiring someone who can organise the daily workload, allocate jobs to workshop staff, manage repair timescales, control costs and maintain constant communication with their transport team to maximise vehicle availability.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the workshop from the start of the working day through to completion of jobs, ensuring staff are productive, that work is properly recorded, parts are available, repairs are completed on time, and vehicles are returned to service as quickly and safely as possible.You will work closely with the Transport Manager and transport team, as well as external workshops and specialist lorry‑loader crane maintenance providers, to keep their operation running smoothly.

Hours and Salary:

Full Time; 7:00am start, with finishing times negotiable£55K - £60K per annum depending on experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

Running the workshop operation:

• Take full responsibility for the day‑to‑day running and organisation of the workshop.

Communication and vehicle availability:

• Maintain constant communication with the Transport Manager and transport team regarding vehicle availability, defects, repairs and anticipated return‑to‑service times.

Fleet maintenance and legal compliance:

• Manage planned preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs), servicing, repairs, MOT preparation and defect rectification.

Parts purchasing and cost control:

• Identify and order parts required for servicing, repairs and maintenance.

Damage repairs and insurance claims:

• Manage the workshop's response to vehicle, trailer and equipment damage.

Staff management and training:

• Manage the daily activities and performance of workshop staff, ensuring jobs are allocated fairly and effectively.

Third‑party workshop and specialist provider management:

• Coordinate work with external workshops and maintenance contractors.

Reporting, systems and continuous improvement:

• Ensure all workshop jobs, labour hours, parts, repair costs and completion details are accurately recorded on Raptor.

Essential Experience and Skills:

Proven experience running an HGV workshop or managing a comparable commercial vehicle maintenance operation.A sound understanding of PMIs, MOTs, vehicle defects, repairs and roadworthiness compliance.The ability to manage damage repairs and coordinate insurance claims.

Desirable:

Experience using the Vaptor computer system.Knowledge of lorry‑loader crane maintenance arrangements.Experience coordinating external workshop providers.
