Job summary

RE Resource Group is seeking a Workshop Manager to lead a busy fleet workshop in Cheltenham with responsibility for HGV Technicians, a Workshop Supervisor and an Administrator. The role covers Bristol depot travel and ensuring day-to-day operations run smoothly.

You will manage performance, safety and compliance across the workshop, balancing service levels with commercial aims while driving efficiencies and standards.

Qualifications

• Proven managerial experience handling interviews, investigations and grievances.
• Current HGV Class 2 licence with a good understanding of tachograph systems.
• City & Guilds HGV Parts 1-3 or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• Strong technical understanding of HGV maintenance including hydraulics, pneumatics, electrics and mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of vehicle compliance requirements, including R2C and LOLER inspection systems.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support the workshop team to ensure an efficient, productive and professional service.
• Oversee vehicle availability, maintenance schedules and workshop labour to minimise downtime.
• Ensure fleet maintenance records, vehicle documentation and compliance systems are maintained accurately.
• Maintain high standards of workshop housekeeping, health and safety, and adherence to company policies and procedures.
• Balance customer service with commercial objectives and provide clear technical guidance.

Our client, a well-established business within the transport and fleet industry, based in Cheltenham, has an exciting new opportunity for a Workshop Manager to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a hands‑on management role overseeing the day‑to‑day running of the fleet workshop, with responsibility for a team of HGV Technicians, a Workshop Supervisor and an Administrator. The successful candidate will also be required to support the Bristol depot and must be happy to travel between sites.

The successful Workshop Manager should have:

• Proven experience in a managerial role, including handling employee matters such as interviews, investigations and grievances.
• A current HGV Class 2 licence or above, alongside a good understanding of tachograph systems.
• A City & Guilds HGV Parts 1, 2 and 3 qualification, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• A strong technical understanding of HGV maintenance, including hydraulics, pneumatics, electrics and mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of vehicle compliance requirements, ideally including R2C and LOLER inspection systems.

In this role, the Workshop Manager will be responsible for:

• Managing and supporting the workshop team to ensure an efficient, productive and professional service.

The working hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00am-4:30pm, with alternate Saturdays from 7:00am-11:30am.
