Job summary

Amey is hiring a permanent HGV Mechanical Technician for the Fleet & Plant team at the Charnock Richards depot (PR7 5LQ). You will service and repair National Highways winter maintenance vehicles, operating in a workshop and on MSVs with training provided for winter equipment.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds or NVQ in HGV level 3 (preferred).
• Full UK Driving Licence (HGV Class 2 preferred but not essential).
• Experience working on commercial vehicles.
• Strong fault diagnosis and repair capability.
• Ability to follow procedures and use initiative.
• Attention to detail and quality-focused approach.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Good organisation and time management.
• Comfortable using digital systems for recording work (Training will be provided).
• HGV Licence (HGV Class 2 preferred but not essential).
• Experience across a mixed fleet of HGVs, vehicles and plant.
• Knowledge of DVSA maintenance standards.
• Experience in mobile roadside repairs.
• Experience working on winter maintenance vehicles, gritters or specialist highway maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain, diagnose and repair National Highways winter maintenance fleet (training provided for winter maintenance equipment)
• Work within the workshop and Mobile Service Vehicles (MSVs) as required
• Perform maintenance in line with manufacturer guidelines and DVSA standards
• Use diagnostic equipment to identify electrical, mechanical and hydraulic faults (training provided)
• Test functionality of vehicle systems and components
• Complete job cards and maintenance records
• Carry out road tests to confirm safety and performance
• Provide roadside support and breakdown assistance when required
• Ensure safe use and maintenance of all tools and equipment (specialist tools supplied)
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment
• Adhere to all legal, compliance and Operator Licence requirements
• Follow Health & Safety procedures at all times
• Work collaboratively and share knowledge across the team
