Job summary

NMS Recruit is recruiting an experienced HGV Technician for a Grantham workshop. You will service, inspect, diagnose and repair heavy goods vehicles and trailers, ensuring safe, high-quality workmanship and DVSA-compliant inspections.

The role includes ongoing manufacturer training, professional development and clear career progression. 40-hour weeks with a paid break and alternating Saturday overtime possibilities.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (NVQ, City & Guilds or IMI).
• Strong diagnostic skills with experience servicing and repairing HGVs.
• Knowledge of DVSA standards and vehicle inspection requirements.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, safety inspections and preventative maintenance on HGVs and trailers.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and complete major and minor repairs.
• Identify worn or defective components in accordance with DVSA standards.
• Work closely with the workshop team to diagnose faults and plan repairs.
• Complete job cards, maintenance records and warranty documentation accurately.
• Provide roadside repair support in the event of breakdowns, as required.
• Maintain workshop stock records and keep the working environment clean and organised.
• Follow health and safety procedures and maintain high standards of workmanship

Job description

HGV Technician - Grantham

Basic Salary: (£19.50 per hour) Overtime: £29.25 per hour

Hours: 40 hours per week, including a paid 30-minute break

Shift Pattern

Monday to Friday, alternating weekly:

• Early shift: 06:00-14:00
• Late shift: 14:00-22:00
• Every other Saturday is required and paid at the overtime rate. Additional overtime opportunities and call-out/standby duties are available.

The Role

Skills and Experience

• Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, such as NVQ, City & Guilds or IMI.
• Previous experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic or HGV Fitter.
• Strong diagnostic skills and experience servicing and repairing heavy goods vehicles.
• Knowledge of DVSA standards and vehicle inspection requirements.
• A current, full UK driving licence covering the relevant vehicle classes.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A reliable approach, good attention to detail and a commitment to safe working practices.
