Job summary

National Vehicle Distribution in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced HGV mechanic for a full-time role at the Birtley workshop. The position operates a three-day shift from 06:00 to 18:30, with a salary range of £40,560–£55,770 per year plus overtime.

You will carry out general mechanical maintenance, prepare vehicles for MOT, diagnose faults, and assist with apprenticeship training, while upholding health and safety standards in a team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent required.
• HGV mechanical experience essential.
• Heavy plant experience also considered.
• Full driving licence required (Class 1/C+E preferable).
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to use tools and diagnostic equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general mechanical planned and corrective maintenance.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT.
• Carry out diagnostic fault identification and rectification.
• Assist with apprenticeship training.

Requirements

• Must hold a formal qualification NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• Heavy plant experience will also be considered.
• HGV mechanical experience is a must
• A Class one(C+E) licence would be preferable but not essential.
• Excellent communication and team working skills.
• Ability to use tools and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Determined and resilient, with the drive to complete tasks.
• Ideally have experience working on Mercedes, Renault & Scania.
• Ideally have experience working with hydraulic systems.
• Full driving license.
