Job summary

The Best Connection Group is recruiting a skilled HGV Technician to join our Leyland workshop. This full-time, late-shift role involves servicing, diagnostics and repairs across heavy vehicles and trailers, with a focus on high-quality workmanship and safety.

You will work Monday to Friday, 4:00pm to 11:00pm, with bonus opportunities and overtime premiums. A strong diagnostic capability and DVSA compliance knowledge are essential, along with a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent).
• Proven experience as an HGV Technician or similar role.
• Full UK manual driving licence.
• An HGV licence (Cat C or C+E) preferred but not essential.
• Knowledge of DVSA standards and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs, trucks and trailers.
• Diagnose faults using modern diagnostic equipment and rectify issues.
• Prepare vehicles for annual MOT testing and inspections.
• Work to DVSA standards and health and safety requirements.
• Complete job cards and service documentation using tablet/workshop software.

The Best Connection are recruiting for our busy and growing vehicle repair client in Leyland, specialising in cars, light commercial vehicles and HGVs.

About the Role

The Best Connection are seeking a skilled, self-motivated and fully qualified HGV Technician / Truck & Trailer Technician to join our professional workshop in Leyland.

Working as part of our late shift team, you'll carry out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs across a varied range of heavy goods vehicles, trucks and trailers.

The ideal candidate will be confident working independently and as part of a team, with strong diagnostic skills and a commitment to high-quality workmanship, safety and compliance.

This is a Monday-to-Friday position with fixed hours of 4:00pm to 11:00pm and no weekend work, offering an excellent work-life balance alongside competitive earnings and bonus opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs on HGVs, trucks and trailers.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and other technical faults using modern diagnostic equipment.
• Conduct safety inspections and prepare vehicles for annual MOT testing, presenting vehicles when required.
• Ensure all work is completed to DVSA standards and in line with relevant health and safety requirements.
• Complete electronic job cards, service sheets and compliance documentation accurately using a tablet and Blue Crystal Workshop Pro software.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship, aiming to get the job right first time and minimise vehicle downtime.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
• Assist with vehicle breakdowns where required, if applicable to the role.
• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds Level 3, IMI or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Proven experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Truck & Trailer Technician or Commercial Vehicle Fitter.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Good knowledge of vehicle maintenance, DVSA standards and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently, manage workload effectively and contribute positively to a team.
• Full UK manual driving licence.

An HGV licence (Category C or C+E) is preferred but not essential.

• IRTEC accreditation.
• Experience working with a range of HGV manufacturers, including DAF, Volvo and Scania.
• Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and tachographs.
• Welding and fabrication skills.
• Experience using electronic workshop management systems and diagnostic tools.
