Job summary

Talented People is recruiting an experienced HGV Technician in Colnbrook. You will inspect, service and repair HGVs and other commercial vehicles in a busy workshop, with a rotating shift pattern including some Saturdays. You will mentor apprentices and ensure work is completed to high standards.

The role requires diagnostic and fault-finding skills, a valid HGV licence (Class 2 preferred) and tachograph knowledge. This is a hands-on position in a professional team environment.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds Parts 1-3 or NVQ Level 3 in HGV maintenance.
• Or 10+ years of HGV maintenance experience.
• Valid HGV licence, preferably Class 2.
• Digital tachograph card and Driver CPC.
• Knowledge of tachograph systems.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Awareness of Health & Safety legislation and safe practices.
• Efficient and high-standard repairs.
• Good written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Proactive problem solver; flexible with shifts.

Responsibilities

• Carry out inspections, servicing and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
• Complete warranty work where required.
• Prepare and present HGVs for annual MOT testing.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
• Identify and report vehicle defects.
• Complete service documentation and job records.
• Follow health and safety procedures and SOPs.
• Maintain a clean, safe workshop environment.
• Mentor apprentices as needed.
• Provide roadside assistance when required.
• Keep knowledge up to date through training.
• Support and cover other sites when needed.

Location: Colnbrook

Hours: Rotating shift pattern — Week 1: 6:30am-2:30pm | Week 2: 2:00pm-10:00pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Plus alternate Saturdays, 7:30am-12:00pm.

We are currently recruiting for a skilled and motivated HGV Technician to join an established commercial vehicle maintenance team based in Colnbrook.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive team and play a key role in keeping a busy HGV fleet safe, reliable and operational.

The Role

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for carrying out high-quality inspections, servicing, maintenance and repairs across a range of HGVs and commercial vehicles.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out inspections, servicing and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
• Completing warranty work where required.
• Preparing and presenting HGVs for annual MOT testing.
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
• Identifying and accurately reporting vehicle defects.
• Completing service documentation and job records in line with company procedures.
• Following all health & safety procedures, risk assessments and Safe Operating Procedures.
• Maintaining a clean, safe and professional workshop environment.
• Supporting and mentoring apprentice technicians.
• Providing roadside assistance when required and safe to do so.
• Keeping technical knowledge and skills up to date through ongoing training.
• Working flexibly to support operational requirements, including occasional cover at other sites.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• City & Guilds Parts 1, 2 & 3, NVQ Level 3 or an equivalent qualification in HGV maintenance.
• Alternatively, 10+ years' relevant HGV maintenance experience will be considered.
• A valid HGV licence, ideally minimum Class 2.
• A valid digital tachograph card and Driver CPC.
• Good knowledge of tachograph systems.
• Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
• Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• A strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices.
• The ability to complete repairs efficiently and to a high standard.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to take on new challenges.
• Flexibility to work the required rotating shift pattern.
