Job summary

Work Wales is seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic/Technician to join a busy workshop near Bridgend. You will diagnose, service and repair a diverse fleet of HGVs, plant machinery and vans, performing PMIs and preparing vehicles for MOTs. A full UK driving licence is essential; an HGV licence is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an HGV Fitter, HGV Technician or HGV Mechanic.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Good working knowledge of HGV systems including engines, braking, suspension, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams and schematics.
• A full UK driving licence is essential; an HGV licence is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service and repair HGVs, plant machinery and vans.
• Carry out Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on fleet vehicles.
• Identify, diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and statutory inspections, including supporting booking and compliance requirements.
• Accurately record repairs, vehicle defects and workshop time.
• Maintain a safe, clean, organised workshop environment in line with COSHH.
• Liaise with Workshop Manager regarding parts, stock and workshop supplies.
• Provide technical support to operational teams regarding vehicle defects, maintenance, and breakdowns.
