Work Wales is seeking an experienced HGV/Plant Fitter or Mechanic for a busy Bridgend workshop. You will maintain and repair a modern fleet of heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and vans with emphasis on safety, reliability and compliance.

Qualifikationen

• Proven experience as an HGV fitter or mechanic.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Good knowledge of HGV systems (engines, brakes, suspension, hydraulics, electrical).
• Full UK driving licence is essential; HGV licence advantageous.
• Ability to read manuals and wiring diagrams.

Aufgaben

• Diagnose, service and repair HGVs, plant machinery and vans.
• Carry out PMIs on fleet vehicles.
• Identify, diagnose and rectify faults in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and compliance requirements.
• Record repairs, defects and workshop time accurately.
• Maintain a safe, clean, compliant workshop environment per COSHH.
• Liaise with Workshop Manager regarding parts, stock requirements and workshop supplies.
• Provide technical support to operational teams regarding vehicle defects and maintenance needs.

HGV Mechanic / HGV Technician – Plant & Fleet Maintenance

Location: Bridgend

Salary: Up to £20 per hour, depending on experience

A privately owned Environmental Services business supporting a range of industries is seeking an experienced HGV / Plant Fitter / Mechanic to join its busy workshop team near Bridgend.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business, maintaining and repairing a modern fleet of heavy goods vehicles, associated plant machinery and a variety of vans. The role is ideal for a skilled, hands-on mechanic who takes pride in delivering high quality workmanship and maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service and repair HGVs, associated plant machinery and vans.
• Carry out Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on fleet vehicles.
• Identify, diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and statutory inspections, including supporting booking and compliance requirements.
• Accurately record repairs, vehicle defects and workshop time.
• Maintain a safe, clean, organised and compliant workshop environment, including adherence to COSHH regulations.
• Liaise with the Workshop Manager regarding parts, stock requirements and workshop supplies.
• Provide technical support and advice to operational teams regarding vehicle defects, maintenance requirements and breakdowns.

Skills and Experience

• Proven experience as an HGV Fitter, HGV Technician or HGV Mechanic.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Good working knowledge of HGV systems, including engines, braking systems, suspension, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams and schematics.
• A full UK driving licence is essential.
• An HGV driving licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
