Job summary

DM Recruitment Limited is seeking a skilled HGV Mechanic to inspect, repair, and maintain a fleet of heavy vehicles to ensure safety and reliability. The role offers 45 hours per week with varied shifts and opportunities to work on trailers, hydraulic and electrical systems, and welding projects.

You will join a busy workshop, collaborating with other technicians to keep vehicles running efficiently and safely, with potential overtime and Sunday/Bank Holiday pay at premium rates.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an HGV mechanic or in heavy vehicle maintenance.
• Hands-on repair and assembly knowledge with strong mechanical skills.
• Welding, fabrication, soldering, and electrical schematics experience.
• Familiarity with electrical systems on heavy machinery (excavators, forklifts).
• Experience using hand tools, power tools and specialised vehicle repair equipment.
• Knowledge of maintenance procedures for heavy vehicles and related machinery.
• Ability to lift safely in a busy workshop and work efficiently.
• Strong problem-solving skills with proactive diagnostics and repairs.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain a fleet of HGVs and trailers in a workshop setting.
• Carry out trailer inspections and repairs.
• Perform PPM and fault finding on HGV/LGV units and trailers.
• Work on hydraulic and electrical systems across multiple units.
• Attend off-site breakdowns and assist with welding tasks as needed.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled and energetic HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) Mechanic to join our dynamic maintenance team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of heavy-duty vehicles to ensure optimal performance, safety, and compliance. Your expertise will keep our operations running smoothly and efficiently, contributing to the overall success of our logistics and transportation services. Salary

• Salary: £19.66 per hour

• Overtime after 45 hours will be paid at £24.58ph
• Occasional Sundays or Bank Holidays will be paid at £29.49ph

Hours and Shift Pattern

• Hours: 45 hours per week - alternative shift pattern
• Week 1 : 06:00 - 15:30
• Week 2 : 07:30 - 17:00
• Plus alternative Saturdays 7am - 12pm paid at £24.58ph

Duties

• You will be working alongside other technicians to repair and maintain a fleet of HGVs and trailers, working out of the vehicle maintenance workshop.
• Trailer inspections and repairs
• Carry out PPM and/or fault finding on HGV/LGV units and trailers
• Moffat inspections and repairs
• Hydraulic works on multiple types of units / trailers
• Electrical works on multiple types of units / trailers
• Work on bespoke “blower” trailers (including blowing equipment)
• Fault-finding and brake testing/braking systems
• Pre LOLER inspections to fleet, where applicable
• Some aspects of welding and fabricating
• Attend off-site breakdowns

Experience

• Proven experience as an HGV mechanic or in a similar heavy vehicle maintenance role
• Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in equipment repair and assembly
• Skilled in welding, fabrication, soldering, and working with schematics for electrical systems
• Familiarity with electrical systems on heavy machinery such as excavators or forklifts
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment for vehicle repair
• Knowledge of maintenance procedures for heavy vehicles and related machinery
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently in a busy workshop environment
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to diagnostics and repairs
