Job summary

Manpower in Belfast is recruiting HGV/LGV Driver Loaders for a busy operational team at the Duncrue Complex. This temporary role involves driving refuse collection vehicles, supporting waste and recycling services, and ensuring work is performed safely and efficiently.

Shifts include days and nights, with a 3‑month assignment and a focus on teamwork, health and safety, and reliable attendance. Candidates should hold a Category C (HGV Class 2) licence and a Driver CPC, plus practical LGV

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months experience driving LGV in a commercial/public sector
• Experience working with the public
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures

Responsibilities

• Safely operate HGV/LGV refuse collection vehicles
• Collect and transport waste, recyclables, and compostables
• Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and defect reporting
• Load/unload waste using mechanical lifting equipment
• Supervise and support crew during daily operations
• Complete vehicle, fuel, mileage, and tachograph records
• Follow collection routes while maintaining customer service
• Assist with street cleansing, recycling, or other duties as required
• Report hazards, incidents, and operational issues to management

Location: Duncrue Complex, Belfast

Contract: Temporary (Approx. 3 Months)

Shift Patterns

We have the following shifts available:

• Dayshift: Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 3:30pm (3:00pm finish on Fridays) - 3 positions available
• Nightshift: Wednesday to Sunday, 11:00pm - 7:00am (6:30am finish on Monday mornings) - 1 position available

About the Role

We are currently recruiting HGV/LGV Driver Loaders to join a busy operational team based at the Duncrue Complex. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a fast-paced environment supporting essential waste collection and recycling services across Belfast. The successful candidates will be responsible for driving refuse collection vehicles, working alongside operational teams, and ensuring waste and recycling collections are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate HGV/LGV refuse collection vehicles.
• Collect and transport waste, recyclable, and compostable materials.
• Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and defect reporting.
• Load and unload waste safely using mechanical lifting equipment.
• Supervise and support crew members during daily operations.
• Complete all required vehicle, fuel, mileage, and tachograph records.
• Follow designated collection routes while maintaining excellent customer service.
• Maintain high standards of health & safety and housekeeping.
• Assist with street cleansing, recycling, and other operational duties when required.
• Report hazards, incidents, and operational issues to management.
• Full Category C (HGV Class 2) Driving Licence.
• Valid Driver CPC Qualification Card.
• Minimum 6 months' experience driving an LGV in a commercial or public sector environment.
• Experience working directly with members of the public.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety procedures.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Reliable with excellent attendance and timekeeping.
• Previous waste, recycling, or local authority experience.
• Experience supervising small operational teams.
• Knowledge of vehicle telematics and waste collection equipment.
