Job summary

Tarmac is seeking an experienced HGV Fitter to join the National Road Planning (NRP) team based in Rand, Lincolnshire. You will maintain and support the NRP fleet, ensuring vehicles stay safe, compliant and operational across the UK road network. Occasional on-site breakdown support may be required.

Responsibilities include servicing, fault diagnosis, parts requisition, and accurate documentation. The role emphasises safety, quality, and continuous improvement within a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an HGV Fitter or in similar maintenance roles.
• Strong mechanical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned servicing, inspections, maintenance and repairs to manufacturer specs.
• Diagnose faults and perform reactive maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Record maintenance activities, labour hours and parts used in company systems.
• Raise parts and stock requirements and support inventory management.
• Complete job documentation for all activities and maintain compliant records.
• Support preventative maintenance and fleet reliability improvements.
• Maintain clean, safe work areas following 5S standards.
• Provide breakdown support and participate in on-call out-of-hours when required.

What You'll Be Doing

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you'll play a key role in maintaining and supporting the NRP fleet, ensuring vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational across the UK road network. While primarily workshop-based, there will be occasions where you'll attend breakdowns and provide support on-site.

• Carrying out planned servicing, inspections, maintenance, and repairs in line with manufacturer specifications and company procedures
• Diagnosing faults and undertaking reactive maintenance to minimise vehicle downtime
• Recording all maintenance activities, labour hours, and parts used through company systems
• Raising requirements for parts and stock replenishment while supporting effective inventory management
• Completing job documentation accurately for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities
• Supporting preventative maintenance programmes and identifying opportunities to improve fleet reliability
• Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards and ensuring work areas remain clean, safe, and compliant with 5S principles
• Providing breakdown support when required, including participation in out-of-hours call-out activities depending on experience

What We Are Looking For

We're seeking a proactive and dependable individual with a strong mechanical background and a passion for delivering high standards of workmanship. You'll bring:

• Proven experience working as an HGV Fitter, Maintenance Technician, Plant Fitter, or within a similar maintenance environment
• Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good understanding of operational mobile plant and vehicle maintenance practices
• A full UK manual driving licence with no more than six penalty points
• A commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement

It would also be advantageous if you have:

• An LGV (HGV) licence
• Previous plant fitting experience
